The joke is that the exact same Korean sentence is grammatically valid BOTH ways — it can mean "I knew I would love you" OR "I thought I would love you (but nope)." Korean doesn't always force you to specify, so the same words can be the most romantic thing ever or a complete rejection depending on how you read it.
