Horror story: four college kids play hide and seek at a California campsite. bad idea.

· 0 0 0

I wasn't going to post this one but okay. horror story time.

So there's this old campsite deep in the woods outside California. Nobody really goes there anymore. Which is exactly why these four college kids picked it. They wanted the quiet, the vibes, you know the type.

They set up tents, got a fire going, played guitar, sang songs. Genuinely having a good time.

Then it got late and Mike, drunk, goes "yo we should play hide and seek."

Everyone's like. Bro. We're adults. But they were all tipsy so. Sure. Why not.

Jenny was it. Mike ran into the woods, Tom hid behind a tent, Sarah crouched behind this gnarly old tree at the edge of the campsite. Jenny covered her eyes. "one, two, three..."

And the forest just. went silent. Like unnaturally silent. Only her voice.

She hits ten, opens her eyes, and the woods are PITCH BLACK. She grabs a flashlight and finds Tom first, hiding behind the tent, giggling like an idiot. Cool. Two down, two to go.

They head into the woods together to find Mike and Sarah.

The firelight doesn't reach in there. Branches making weird shapes everywhere. Then from far away they hear Mike's voice: "I'm over here!"

They run toward it. Nothing. No Mike.

"I said I'm OVER HERE!" Run again. Nothing.

They keep chasing the voice and before they realize it they're deep deep in the woods. Like way too far from camp.

And then.

Right behind them. A whisper.

"over here..."

They whip around. Nobody. Nothing. Just trees.

They start screaming Mike and Sarah's names, full panic mode, but the only thing coming back is their own voices echoing. Then they hear Mike again.

"I'm here... please..."

But this time it's different. He's crying. Like actually sobbing terrified crying.

They run toward it and. okay. I'm gonna just say it.

Mike was hanging from this massive tree. His body bent wrong, like it was part of the tree. Eyes wide open but empty. Just. empty.

They screamed. And then behind them, a cold voice said:

"now let's go find Sarah."

They BOLTED. Didn't look back once. Just ran and ran until they hit the campsite.

And there was Sarah. Curled up in front of the tent, sobbing. They ran to her but she didn't see them. Didn't react. Just kept whispering to herself, clutching this old raggedy doll in her hands.

"hide and seek... it's over..."

They left that night. Mike's body was never found. Sarah got admitted to a psych ward and hasn't spoken a single word since. They say at night she sits by the window, holding that doll, whispering "hide and seek... hide and seek..."

Like she's still playing. With whatever was in those woods.
