The abandoned apartment in Daegu that keeps turning its lights on at 11pm

I wasn't going to post this but I genuinely can't stop thinking about it.

Spring 2023. Daegu, Beomeo-dong. There's this old apartment complex that got approved for demolition, most residents already moved out, just a few buildings left standing before the wrecking crews show up.

I was there for a documentary project. Filming 'forgotten urban spaces' or whatever. Abandoned apartment = perfect backdrop. Simple assignment.

Except.

Building C, 12 floors. Unit 1201 specifically. Someone tipped me off that the lights in that unit never go off. The building is empty. Electricity is cut. And yet, every night, the lights come on. Sometimes there's a shadow in the window.

So I set up my tripod and just... waited.

11pm exactly. The living room light in unit 1201 turned on. Completely empty building. Precise like a timer. I just sat there staring.

Next morning I found the site manager. Asked him straight up if anyone was still living in that unit.

"No one," he said. "They all moved out two months ago. Power's been cut."

I went in anyway. Snuck into Building C alone because apparently I have zero self-preservation instinct. Elevator was dead so I walked up twelve flights of stairs and made it to unit 1201 and.

There was a white envelope on the doormat.

'You are invited.'

Inside: an old key. And a folded note.

'You are not alone. Come in.'

I did not open that door. I walked back down and left.

That night I was reviewing my footage and I saw it. Someone in the window of 1201. I zoomed in. There was something written on the glass.

'Next... it's your turn.'

I packed up. Left Daegu.

A few weeks later the site manager called me.

"Just wanted to let you know. A photographer came by last week to shoot that building. They went missing. Last place anyone saw them was..."

In front of that unit.
