I wasn't going to post this but I still think about it constantly.
I'm 26F, office worker now, but earlier this year I was working at a phone shop in Bangbae-dong. Our store didn't have its own bathroom so we had to use the one in the building next door. I was on the phone with my bf a lot so I'd go there constantly just to talk.
Usually I used the 1st floor one but it's old and unisex so sometimes I went up to the 2nd floor. That's where it happened.
So me and my bf fought on the phone a LOT. And if you've ever argued with someone on the phone you know you kind of tune out everything around you. That day we were going at it again, the 1st floor bathroom was locked so I went up to the 2nd. Two stalls. I went into the left one. I was so deep in the argument I didn't even lock the door.
Then I hear someone come in.
I didn't think anything of it. Just figured okay I'll wait til they leave. Kept arguing.
But something started feeling off.
I finally ended the call and that's when it hit me. I heard them come in. I never heard them leave. And it had been a WHILE.
So I start pretending I'm still on the phone. Just talking to no one. Literally just rambling into a dead phone while listening as hard as I could. And I swear. Whoever was out there was holding their breath. Waiting for me to come out.
I wanted to check if they were still there so I got down on the floor, still fake-talking, and looked through the tiny gap under the door.
I almost screamed.
I yanked my head up so fast. Because the thing I saw through that gap??? was his eye. He was ALSO lying on the floor. Holding his breath. Staring through the gap at me. And we made eye contact.
My heart was literally going to explode. I switched my phone to silent and texted my bf the store number and told him to call my boss and get him over here NOW.
My boss showed up in like 1-2 minutes but those minutes felt like decades. The second I heard him calling my name my legs gave out and I just sobbed on the floor.
Boss told me later he passed a guy on the way in. Early 20s. Clutching something under his jacket. Looked freaked out and hurried past him. Boss didn't know what was going on, he was just trying to find me, so he didn't stop the guy.
I still get chills typing this. I will never forget that eye. It doesn't matter if it's broad daylight, I don't go into empty bathrooms anymore. ever.
