saw a corpse report working public service duty. here's what happened

okay so quick context before i get into it: i was doing my mandatory military service, assigned to public service duty at two different offices. 06 unit was active duty, 07 unit was supplementary reserve. the full story behind how i ended up there is a whole other thing i'll save for later.

ANYWAY. i got placed at the prosecutor's office and i was SO hyped. like i figured public service = some chill government desk job, clock out at 2pm, go get fried chicken with my boys. breezy. easy. i was so naive.

so i show up thinking i'm gonna be answering phones at some county office and instead i get:

"oh you're going to the prosecutor's office"

???

and that's how it started. the prosecutor's office life.

the court office next door? those guys got to sit in a nice office all day, drink coffee, browse Wordman (basically Korean internet forums). the prosecutor's office guys? we were straight up errand boys for the actual investigators and prosecutors. running everywhere. and we even had to do OVERNIGHT shifts. why? because investigators need errand boys at night too, apparently.

at night the prosecutor's building is genuinely so quiet and peaceful. but the fax machine in our office goes INSANE. most of it was warrants and summons for people who got fined or flagged, stuff like that. normal chaos.

but sometimes. SOMETIMES. a weird fax would come in.

like when Barcelona FC sent a contract termination notice. that one flew in like a sharp cold wind, faxes just POURING out of the machine one after another, the door rattling from the volume.

and then there were the death reports.

someone died and a body was found. that kind of fax.

a death report is usually just a quick situation summary with a few photos attached. and when one of those comes in, no matter what time it is, you have to call the on-duty prosecutor RIGHT THEN and let them decide whether to open an investigation or not.

the photos attached were... it varied. some officers just sent a general shot of the scene around the body. others sent. very detailed shots. of the body itself.
