he asked me to be his girlfriend while sitting on a bench and I literally couldn't speak

so I met this guy through work, he was from a company we did business with. we'd see each other at meetings sometimes and then grabbed drinks one day and just... clicked. we both knew there was something there but it felt weird since we were in the same industry, plus I'd only been broken up for like six months so everything was super awkward and undefined. we'd just keep running into each other, grabbing lunch, keeping it casual and respectful and all that.

then one day we met up and it was spring and there's this walking path with a night view and we're just walking and talking and we end up sitting on a bench under a street lamp. it's late so there's barely anyone around, the weather's perfect, the view is beautiful. and I'm like "today feels like a really good day" and he's just like "yeah it does." and then we both just sit there in silence, feeling the breeze, watching the lights.

and then out of NOWHERE he just looks at me with this soft quiet voice and goes "should we meet as boyfriend and girlfriend tomorrow?"

I literally froze. couldn't say a word. my heart was going absolutely insane. he said it so casually like it was nothing but honestly? out of every confession I've heard in my entire life, that one lives rent-free in my head. so pretty. so bittersweet.¹

¹ the way he didn't make a big dramatic thing out of it makes it hit different. Korean confessions hit harder when they're quiet like that.
