he said 'let the next guy cut your meat' and I lost it

So me and my bf were together for 3 years and I hit that wall where I was like... I don't know if I want this anymore. Decided I'd take him out for one last meal and break up with him. We ordered tonkatsu and I was like okay this is it.

Here's the thing though. I've always been bad at cutting the meat properly so he'd always do it for me. It's like. Our thing. But this time he's offering to cut it and I'm just like no I got it, I'll do it myself. Trying to play it cool, you know? So I'm laughing awkwardly like "see I can do this alone now, I'll be fine when I get married lol" thinking I'm being all independent and whatever.

And he just... looks at me. One look. Then he smiles that smile and goes "yeah you'll be fine getting married. But don't do that stuff. Let your next boyfriend do it."

I LOST IT. I'm not exaggerating when I say I just started crying at the table. Couldn't even finish eating. Had to leave.

But like... that was 4 years ago? We didn't break up. We're still together. He apologizes to me about it constantly even now, which honestly makes me feel worse because *I* was the one trying to leave. And he just takes care of me. Always has my back first. The whole thing still gets me emotional tbh.
